Related California and East Bay Asian Land Development Corp. aim to bring upwards of 600 affordable homes to Oakland

Related California and East Bay Asian Land Development Corp. have partnered on a project in downtown Oakland to provide 600 or more affordable residences in a prime location, as well as almost 10,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. When completed, the three-building development would provide more affordable homes to the East Bay than were proposed in 2020.

At The Harriet Tubman Supportive Housing Building in Far Rockaway, the affordable development's future playroom just became brighter and more colorful. Brooklyn-based artist duo Chiaozza—husband and wife team Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao—designed a custom, site-specific mural and installation to enhance playtime for the building's youngest residents.

On Wednesday, December 8th, Related Midwest executives, including President Curt Bailey, spent the night on a Woodlawn neighborhood roof to raise funds and awareness for a new community center that Pastor Corey Brooks is planning to build as part of Project H.O.O.D. The new community center will offer wraparound services for locals, including residents of Parkway Gardens, providing services and a place to gather for Chicago's South Side community.

The Related Employee Resource Groups have banded together to help make local children's holidays a little brighter. Working with Hudson Guild, the group is collecting donations for toys that will be given away to children in need within the Hudson Yards neighborhood.

This fall, members of non-profit Blacks in Green planted 36 trees in Chicago, which had been donated by Related Midwest to help beautify the future Emmett Till House Museum (opening in 2024). Members of BiG will maintain the trees and lead a horticultural training program as part of the Sustainable Square Mile program, which addresses climate change in the local community.
